MUSIC
Music plays a central part in the life of the school. The majority of our children in the Junior School learn an instrument or are in the school choir, and our aim is to help every pupil feel the joy of music and understand that it is a gift for life.
The lively and positive atmosphere of our Music Department provides inspiring opportunities in all aspects of music, including learning an instrument, ensemble playing, rock band jamming, band playing, composition, 2 different choirs, and endless opportunities for performance.
All pupils from Pre-School to Year 6 have class music timetabled on a weekly basis and taught by a specialist teacher. We have a dedicated team of visiting peripatetic teachers offering individual instrumental lessons in Piano, Singing, Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet, Cornet, Trumpet, Trombone, Violin, Guitar and Drums.
All pupils, regardless of age or level of attainment, are given many opportunities to perform solos, or as part of ensembles and groups throughout the year both within the school and at outside venues, including concerts and festivals.
DRAMA
Children throughout the school are given opportunities to perform throughout the year in various ways.
This includes performing in front of their peers in class assemblies, the Early Years & Infant Christmas production and the Juniors Summer production. We are fortunate to be able to use the Guildhall theatre in Grantham for our summer production, experiencing the thrill of performing on a stage with lighting and full make up. LAMDA is also offered as a paid club after school and children are given the opportunity to prepare for LAMDA exams.
ART
We have a flourishing art department, with lessons and clubs taught by a dedicated art teacher. Children create their artwork using many different mediums including painting, sketching, drawing, fabric printing, textiles, clay, and sculpting to name but a few. Our facilities are superb – we are lucky to have a light, spacious art room, generously equipped with quality art materials. We also have a kiln enabling us to produce clay work, a rare facility in Junior schools.
One of our highlight of the year is our annual Arts Festival and art exhibition, where visitors, pupils and parents are treated to a fantastic display of pupil’s art work. We encourage every child from Foundation through to Year 6, to enter a piece of artwork, all set to a broad-based theme.
Many of these entrants are then selected to represent our school in the ISA (Independent Schools Association) Annual Art competition, where we have had tremendous success, with pupils winning in many different categories, across all of our year groups, at the Midlands regional competition. These winners then go on to compete at the National competition, where we have had many First placed winners.
